Wilco Iris Prom

Each spring Wilco Iris puts on an LGBTQIA+ friendly prom for area teens. This prom serves as an alternative event for students who are marginalized and isolated from attending their own high school prom and offers an environment where they are affirmed, accepted, and loved for being exactly themselves.

Prom 2022 (7)Pulling off this event is a HUGE undertaking, and every single hour of work is performed by our amazing student leaders and adult volunteers who receive absolutely no monetary compensation for their time and effort. Local businesses and citizens provide support in the form of monetary and in-kind donations.

On April 3rd, 2022, Wilco Iris presented R!OT, Williamson County’s first alternative prom for LGBTQIA+ teens and allies, with over 75 students in attendance. The first Pride was a riot, and our first prom honored those that paved the way for us with themed decor and photo ops in tribute to the 1969 Stonewall Riots, a monumental moment in LGBTQ history. R!OT was even featured in the Tennessean newspaper; click HERE to view the article.

Our 2nd annual prom, Masquerade, took place on March 4th, 2023. Masquerade had over 90 students in attendance and featured elegant black and gold decor, with students being invited to wear any mask of their choosing. This year’s prom also featured a very special Memorial Wall, lovingly planned by our Student Leadership Council. With dozens of photos and bios of transgender, gender-nonconforming, and queer individuals whose lives were lost too soon, this tribute reminded us that we don’t just celebrate for the future, but we also celebrate for those who no longer can.
